Angel, when did you
start drawing? I began
drawing as soon as I could pick up a crayon. I "drew" stories,
coincidentally. I am also a published author! This was how my Grandfather
and I passed many sleepy summer afternoons. We made up and illustrated
stories… to this day I have never enjoyed anything as much as I did
drawing my stories for him. He is my inspiration.
What is "Street
Light Halo" about?
Aleese: When I drew Aleese, I felt
something about her. I knew her story. She had a mind, a heart and a
soul… but how many people would bother to find her in there? Find out
who she really is? How many more would just pass her on the street
thinking she was a "dirty girl"? The point being… how many
still to this day judge on appearances? I personally try never to judge
people.
Have your artworks
won any acclaim or awards?
Yes, too many to list. I remember before I was 16 my teacher sent my work
to be displayed in Washington DC for visiting dignitaries. My Grandfather
was so proud. That was definitely the high point of my adolescence.
Who is your
favorite ‘old master’ as far as the art world is concerned?
DiVinchi of course… but more for
his intelligence then his actual artwork. As far as technically correct
and moving, graceful… I have to say Degas.
Any plans for the
future?
My partner and I have several things in the works, such as the Apple
Festival (Connecticut), the Durham Youth Fair, the Rodeo in Dallas and
possibly next year’s Renaissance Festival (Florida).
Future Lines?
Yes, I will soon design a line of shirts entitled, "Higher
Powers" which will be my personal line. I am going to include
some of the things (sayings and such) that get me through the day.
